Our Not-for-Profit Status
Most of us are familiar with the concept of a for-profit company, where decisions must be focused on turning a profit and on paying shareholders and owners substantial dividends for their investment. But what does it mean to be a non-profit or not-for-profit company?
First and foremost, it means that we answer to our customers—the members, providers, agents, and employers who depend on the products and services we provide. It also means that our goal isn't to make a profit at all costs; instead, we work to provide the best service possible at rates that reflect the costs we incur. Instead of turning profits over to stock holders or executives, we have the freedom to reinvest in our company and in the communities we serve.
