Summer of “Walk It Off Wednesdays” at Alton Baker Park Returns June 3

Now in its sixth year, free fitness event in Eugene includes exercise, healthy snacks, weekly giveaways, and more

(EUGENE, Ore.)— From cardiovascular health to reducing stress to simply spending quality time with family or friends, there are numerous reasons why Lane County residents will choose to spend their Wednesday evenings this summer “walking it off.”

Walk It Off Wednesdays, the popular weekly fitness event sponsored by PacificSource Health Plans and Mix 94.5 FM, returns to Alton Baker Park for its sixth year with an official summer kickoff on Wednesday, June 3. This organized, no-cost walking event features free healthy snacks and refreshments, weekly prizes and giveaways, not to mention an opportunity to participate in a healthy activity suitable for the entire family.

“Every year, participants in Walk It Off Wednesdays tell us their reasons for walking, which includes everything from getting into shape to socializing with friends to sharing a healthy activity with their kids,” said Alexa Shook, director of PacificSource Health Promotion and Wellness. “It’s the perfect combination of being good for your health and good for your spirit.”

Walk It Off Wednesdays takes place from 4 to 6 pm June 3 through Aug. 19. The event features weekly themes that promote a fun and festive atmosphere, and those who participate will be eligible for additional prizes.  For every mile logged during the July 8 edition of Walk It Off Wednesdays, PacificSource Health Plans will donate $1– up to $1,000 – to CASA of Lane County.

Maps will be available identifying a variety of pre-measured routes ranging from 1.8 miles to 5.2 miles in length.
