PacificSource is adjusting its timing on effective dates on individual and family plans to match the federal exchange register. In our ongoing effort to help simplify how people buy health insurance, we believe this change adds clarity and consistency.
In the past, PacificSource effective dates for individual plans had been on the 1st of the month (after the qualifying event for special enrollment periods). Going forward, effective dates will correlate with the exchange federal register 45 CFR 155.420 for direct applicants. Examples include:
- Between the 1st and the 15th day of any month, we must ensure a coverage effective date of the 1st day of the following month. For example, if the qualified health plan (QHP) selection is received July 13, the policy is effective August 1.
- Between the 16th and the last day of any month, we must ensure a coverage effective date of the 1st day of the second following month. For example, if the QHP selection is received on July 29, the effective date is September 1.
This change is now effective, and applies to any QHP selection (from a qualified individual).
Effective dates don't apply to birth, adoption, placement for adoption, placement in foster care, or other court order. In these cases, the effective date will be the date of the event. Please contact PacificSource if you have any questions. As always, we’re happy to help.
