PacificSource Health Plans and Legacy Health Finalize Partnership

(PORTLAND, Ore.) Sept. 1, 2016 - Springfield-based PacificSource Health Plans and Portland-based Legacy Health have finalized their partnership. The two organizations initially signed a Letter of Intent in late 2015 to pursue a partnership, and with the agreement finalized today, the new alliance has formally begun. Additionally, in January 2017 PacificSource will become the health insurance provider for Legacy Health’s 19,000 benefit-eligible employees and their families.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that our two organizations are now officially partners, and we can move forward together with shared goals and a vision for improving health care for our members and the communities we serve,” said Ken Provencher, president and CEO of PacificSource Health Plans. “This strategic partnership allows us to utilize each other’s resources to better engage and serve our members, and it strongly supports our ongoing efforts in population health management.”

Through this relationship, both Legacy and PacificSource will work toward achieving their health care triple aim of better care, better cost, and better health.

“In today’s changing health-care landscape, it’s so important for organizations to seek innovation and improvements,” said Dr. George Brown, president and CEO of Legacy Health. “This partnership is an important step forward for Legacy as we seek ways to improve the health of our community, our patients, and our people.”

Current PacificSource and Legacy members, patients, employees, and partners will notice a number of improvements and enhancements as a result of the new partnership, including increased access to care, the creation of new and unique health-plan offerings, and industry-leading stability in the marketplace.

As a part of the agreement, Legacy purchased a 50 percent member interest in PacificSource and a new Board of Directors has been created. The new Board is made up of an equal combination of PacificSource and Legacy board members, as well as three independent members from the community. The new Board includes two physician appointees from PacficSource and two from Legacy. One of the independent board members, who has not yet been named, will also be a physician.
