PacificSource Health Plans and Oregon State University team up for free Healthy Tailgate Event on Nov. 19

Enjoy free, healthy food samples before the Beavers take on Arizona

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) Nov. 16, 2016— PacificSource Health Plan’s “Healthy Life” program will be challenging Oregon State football fans to incorporate delicious, healthy options into their pregame tailgate spread as part of the free Fourth Annual PacificSource Healthy Tailgate event held on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

PacificSource Healthy Life has teamed with OSU’s Moore Family Center & College of Public Health and Human Sciences, as well as OSU Catering, University Housing and Dining Services, OSU Healthy Campus Initiatives, and Bob’s Red Mill, to prepare and offer free samples of the five GridIron Chef recipe contest finalists to OSU tailgaters. Samples will be prepared by chefs from OSU’s University Housing and Dining Services, and served from the PacificSource Healthy Life vehicle, which will be located at Reser Plaza.

“Our GridIron Chef finalists use healthy ingredients such as yams and peppers, a proving once again that nutritious eating doesn’t need to stop on football Saturdays,” said Laura Dudley, PacificSource Health Plans senior registered dietician.

In early November, a tasting panel of experts sampled the recipes of the five finalists, including the winning GridIron Chef recipe Smokey Yam Meatballs, by Morgan Gebhardt of Corvallis. Other finalists include: Curried Couscous Salad, by Colin Albi of Eugene; Spicy Stuffed-Pepper Poppers, by Melissa McDougall of Corvallis; Stuffed Autumn Red Bell Peppers, by Juan Pinilla of Corvallis; Terrific Tailgate Taquitos with Savory Sauce, by Julie Jacobs of Corvallis.

“Our five finalists prove that healthy food can also taste great,” said Dr. Emily Ho, professor and director for the Moore Family Center in OSU’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences. “Each recipe is delectable and easy to prepare, while making pre-game festivities much healthier.”

Free tastings of the recipes will also be available at the OSU Women’s Building following the GridIron Chef 1k/5k Fun Run, which begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Recipes for each of the GridIron Chef finalists from all four years of the competition, as well as other healthy dishes, can be found at health.oregonstate.edu/moore-center/recipes.
