PacificSource Health Plans Honored with American Heart Association Gold Level Workplace Health Achievement Index Recognition
(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) Oct. 3, 2018— PacificSource Health Plans has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a gold level Workplace Health Achievement Index recipient, the highest index recognition level awarded. Formerly structured as the Fit-Friendly Worksite award, the index was developed in collaboration with the Association’s CEO Roundtable and its Center for Workplace Health Research and Evaluation.
Organizations can qualify for bronze, silver, or gold level recognition based on their total index score. This year, 1,036 organizations completed the index, 75% of which scored at the bronze, silver, or gold level. The index is a scored self-assessment, which is based on big-picture best practices that evaluate a workplace health program’s culture, structure, processes, and outcomes.
“It’s critical that we offer our staff well-being opportunities that extend beyond ‘right now’ and instead focus on consistent, positive health and well-being engagement,” said Sabrina Halstead, PacificSource wellness coordinator. “We’ve been long-term advocates for making the healthy choice the easy choice. That still includes activities and challenges, but we’ve also created an environment that supports a more complete picture of well-being for all of our staff.”
The framework of the Workplace Health Achievement Index was built so that organizations would continue to strive to improve the health of their workplace and their workforce from one year to the next.
Additional qualifying workplace wellness programs and criteria that PacificSource has implemented includes the Healthy High Five wellness program, which is a prevention-focused series of activities to increase health awareness and engage employees in their health and well-being. PacificSource also provides access to sit-stand stations, on-site fitness classes and exercise facilities, company-wide walking challenges, healthy on-site food offerings, a comprehensive online health engagement web portal, an employee-focused wellness committee, and a dedicated employee wellness specialist on staff.
PacificSource has been recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite in the past by the AHA at the Platinum and Gold levels and has also previously won the organization’s Community Innovation Award.
