PacificSource welcomes Dr. Shawn Akavan as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Shawn Akavan will be an important part of PacificSource’s senior leadership team, serving member and company needs across all lines of business.
(Springfield, Ore.) July 29, 2024 — PacificSource Health Plans is pleased to welcome Dr. Shawn Akavan as executive vice president and chief medical officer. He will be an important member of PacificSource’s senior leadership team, overseeing clinical practice guidelines and medical policies as well as improving efficiency for members and providers.
Dr. Akavan brings more than 17 years of healthcare experience in both a clinical practice/care delivery setting and a managed-care payor environment. Most recently, he worked with Wellpoint/Elevance as the chief medical officer for the State of Washington. In that role, he was responsible for overall plan performance, clinical operations, quality, HEDIS measures, healthcare networks, behavioral health, and pharmacy.

Dr. Akavan earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Western Ontario (Canada); a Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine (New York); and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on medical management from the University of Massachusetts. He completed his family medicine residency at State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. Akavan will be primarily based out of PacificSource’s Tacoma, Wash., office.
