PacificSource’s Annual Healthy Life Schools Challenge Returns to Warm Springs K-8 Academy on May 2

University of Oregon three-sport standout Jordan Kent to Speak at School Assembly

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) Apr. 27, 2017—PacificSource Health Plans’ Healthy Life Schools Challenge returns to Warm Springs K-8 Academy May 2-28. The four-week challenge rewards faculty and staff that replace the greatest number of high calorie snacks each day with servings of fresh fruits and/or vegetables. The school staff that consumes the highest percentage of fruits and vegetables will receive a donation of up to $3000 from PacificSource to be used to support health and wellness efforts within the school.

The Challenge will engage the school’s staff to improve their health by increasing awareness, access, and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as creating opportunities for teachers, faculty and staff to set good examples and share information on healthy eating and active living to students. Participants will receive complimentary fruits and vegetables from PacificSource each week during the Challenge to help the school get a head start. In addition, students will be able to separately track at home their own strides in making healthier choices.

“We know that health begins where we live, learn, work and play,” said Kate Wells, PacificSource director of wellness and community health strategy. “We also know that education achievement and health are linked, and this program is designed to build on that dynamic in a way that motivates teachers, students and families.”

A kickoff assembly for the Challenge will be held at Warm Springs K-8 Academy on May 2. Former University of Oregon three-sport standout Jordan Kent will be the featured speaker.

All school staff are eligible to participate in the Healthy Life Schools Challenge.
