Become a qualified healthcare interpreter (HCI)

Vendors, hospitals, and medical groups can help provide high-quality language-access services for our members. State law requires providers who accept public funds to ensure access to either qualified or certified healthcare interpreter services.

Program details

Provides individualized support to:

  • Gather required documentation
  • Coordinate language proficiency testing
  • Complete 64 hours of OHA-approved training
  • Prepare and submit the OHA application
  • Receive full refund after submitting application

Training topics include:

  • National Standards of Practice
  • National Code of Ethics
  • Introductory modes and skills
  • Medical Terminology
  • Anatomy & Physiology

Upon successful completion of the training, our team will guide you through completing and submitting your application to become a qualified healthcare interpreter with the state of Oregon.

Upcoming schedule

Sessions are offered online Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific time. Participants must attend the entire 64-hour training with no exceptions.

Program cost and reimbursement

This program is open to vendors and healthcare organizations that have a current contract with PacificSource.

The cost per participant is $1,100.00 and is reimbursed in-full after the following:

  1. Successfully completing the course
  2. Submitting a qualified healthcare interpreter application to OHA
