We offer OHA-approved training and individualized support to become a qualified healthcare interpreter in Oregon.
Become a qualified healthcare interpreter (HCI)
Vendors, hospitals, and medical groups can help provide high-quality language-access services for our members. State law requires providers who accept public funds to ensure access to either qualified or certified healthcare interpreter services.
Program details
Provides individualized support to:
- Gather required documentation
- Coordinate language proficiency testing
- Complete 64 hours of OHA-approved training
- Prepare and submit the OHA application
- Receive full refund after submitting application
Training topics include:
- National Standards of Practice
- National Code of Ethics
- Introductory modes and skills
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy & Physiology
Once you've completed the training, our team will guide you through completing and submitting your application to become a qualified healthcare interpreter with the state of Oregon.

- Fill out an online application
- Wait while our team reviews your qualifications
- Meet with our program coordinator for your next steps
Upcoming schedule
Sessions are offered online from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific time. Participants must attend the entire 64-hour training with no exceptions.
February/March 2025
February 24 - March 18, Mondays and Tuesdays

April/May 2025
April 18 - May 10, Fridays and Saturdays
Registration deadline: March 16
June 2025
June 2 - June 24, Mondays and Tuesdays

Program cost and reimbursement
This program is open to vendors and healthcare organizations that have a current contract with PacificSource.
The cost per participant is $500.00 and is reimbursed in full after the following:
- Successfully completing the course
- Submitting a qualified healthcare interpreter application to OHA
