Become a qualified healthcare interpreter (HCI)
Vendors, hospitals, and medical groups can help provide high-quality language-access services for our members. State law requires providers who accept public funds to ensure access to either qualified or certified healthcare interpreter services.
Program details
Provides individualized support to:
- Complete 60-hours of OHA Approved training
- Prepare and submit the OHA Application to be listed on the OHA Registry of Qualified and Certified Healthcare Interpreters
Training topics include:
- National Standards of Practice
- National Code of Ethics
- Introductory modes and skills
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy & Physiology
Class size is limited to 15 participants for optimal learning. Once you've completed the training, our team will guide you through completing and submitting your application to become a qualified healthcare interpreter with the state of Oregon.

- Complete all of the steps outlined
Upcoming schedule
Class size is limited to 15 participants — enroll early to secure your spot. Sessions are held online from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. This is a 64-hour training, and full attendance is required — no exceptions.

Program eligibility and cost
This program is offered at no cost to individuals who meet the Oregon requirements to be a Qualified or Certified Healthcare Interpreter. Program participants are responsible for any costs associated with language proficiency testing or document translation services.
